Some things are marketed as healing that are actually just dependency in a wellness costume. Kratom was that for me. It came in a shiny package, called itself natural and safe, and I bought it. “Feel Free” they said. For a while it worked — mood lifted, pain softened, energy returned. Then, quietly, it owned me. My brain’s opioid receptors were chained to it and I didn’t even see the chains until I was already deep in withdrawal. Anxiety like my skin was on fire. No sleep. Body shaking. Mind begging for one more dose. That’s not a supplement. That’s addiction.
The application here is simple: just because something is labeled “natural” doesn’t mean it’s harmless. And just because you’re in pain and something takes the edge off doesn’t mean it’s healing you. Sometimes what feels like relief is just a new chain. If you’re using kratom, or thinking about it, please know what you’re stepping into. You deserve actual healing, not a subscription to something that will eventually make you feel worse than what you started with.
That is the application. The rest is the source code.

> NETWORK DISCONNECTED: dealer_in_plain_sight.txt
300 days ago, I broke up with my drug dealer.
It wasn’t some shady guy in an alley — it was a plant in a shiny package.
Kratom. Mitragyna speciosa.
> CODE ERROR: sold_a_lie.log
Marketed as “natural,” “safe,” even “healing.” I bought the lie. At first, it lifted my mood. Took the edge off the pain. Gave me energy.
Then, without realizing it, I was owned. My brain’s opioid receptors were chained to it.
I wasn’t just using kratom — kratom was using me.
> SYSTEM OUTPUT: withdrawal_symptoms.err
The withdrawals were savage. Anxiety that felt like my skin was on fire. Sleepless nights. My body shaking. My mind screaming for just one more dose. It was no different from opioid withdrawal.

And yet… Facebook and Instagram still show me kratom ads. The industry still calls it “safe.” Still wraps addiction in a wellness label. Still tells desperate people like me it’s harmless.
It’s not harmless. It’s not “just a plant.”
It’s dependency dressed up as self-care.

I’m grateful I got out before it took more from me.
